Tioga Downs to Host Fun-Filled Labor Day Events


Tioga Downs Announces Events for Upcoming Holiday Weekend

Nichols, N.Y. – August 31, 2017 – Tioga Downs is gearing up for its Labor Day festivities, which are packed with fun for the entire family.

Quality racing will take place throughout the weekend, with an additional special race day on Labor Day Monday, September 4. Live racing will run from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The highly anticipated Million Dollar Ball Drop will take place during Monday’s races. Contest entry was open to contestants from June 2 to August 20. For this contest, there is a possible prize of $1 million! 500 numbered golf balls will be dropped from the top of a fire truck ladder onto a target area in the infield of the racetrack. The top 25 golf balls dropped closest to target will win prizes up to $5000. Prior to the ball drop, Odds On Promotions will place one randomly generated number ranging from 1 to 500 into a sealed envelope. If the ball dropped closest to the target hole is that same pre-selected number in the sealed envelope, the guest will win $1,000,000.00 to be paid out over 40 years. 

Also on Monday, Tioga Downs will be hosting a Family Fun Day at the races. The theme for this free event will be Carnival Game Day. Sponsored by Bobby K Entertainment, there will be no charge for admission, and no tickets are necessary to enjoy the attractions.

Waverly football team to thank Tioga Downs for assisting in Wounded Warrior fundraising efforts


Waverly athletes will visit Tioga Downs Tuesday to thank Jeff Gural for donated jerseys

Nichols, N.Y. – August 28, 2017 – The Waverly High School football team, which has been working to raise funds and awareness for the Wounded Warrior Project, will be visiting Tioga Downs Tuesday to thank owner Jeff Gural for his support in that mission.

 Mr. Gural generously donated $3500 to the team to purchase Wounded Warrior jerseys. The Wounded Warrior Project is a military and veterans charity service organization empowering injured veterans and their families. 

On Wednesday, August 30 at 2:30 p.m., Waverly football players will don their jerseys at Tioga Downs to thank Mr. Gural. During their visit, the team will also record a video tribute thanking all of those who serve our country. The recording will be played on the team’s video board at the Wounded Warrior game on Friday September 8, Waverly’s first home game of the season.

“It’s no secret that I’m very passionate about supporting the men and women who have bravely and selflessly served our country,” Jeff Gural said. “It’s wonderful that these students already share that great respect and appreciation for the veterans who have sacrificed so much for our freedom. It was my pleasure to donate these jerseys; I could not be prouder of their efforts.”

The Waverly football team has been fundraising, and will also be making a donation to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Tioga Downs Announces Highlights of ‘Corntastic!’ Weekend


Corn-themed Contests to Take Place August 25-27

Nichols, N.Y. – August 23, 2017 – Tioga Downs is announcing details of its upcoming ‘Corntastic!’ event, which will take place from Friday, August 25 through Sunday, August 27. Corntastic is one of the oldest and most popular promotions at Tioga Downs. It’s a celebration of the area’s agricultural flair, and the corn is locally grown and sourced from the Nichols area.

Free grilled corn will be available during live racing, which kicks off at 6:50 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 1 p.m. on Sunday. People can register for the contests at the racing promotions table and the contests will take place during the racing program.

On Friday, August 25, Tioga Downs will host its Corn Toss Contest. Guests will submit an entry to compete, and three will be randomly selected. The contestants will attempt to toss an ear of corn into a basket at varying distances. There will be a total of 4 distances, each subsequently at farther distance. For each successful toss, the contestant will receive a $25 wagering voucher. Each contestant will have a total of 5 attempts.

You won’t want to miss our Corn Eating Contest on Saturday, August 26.  Up to eight contestants will be randomly selected. One spot will be reserved for last year’s defending champion. Contestants will have 3 minutes to eat as many ears of grilled corn as possible. Ears must be completely eaten; Tioga Downs management will serve as judges.

Don’t forget to catch our Corn Husking Contest on Sunday, August 27. Six participants will be randomly selected. Contestants will have three minutes to completely husk as many ears of corn as possible. Ears that are not completely husked will not count towards the final total. Members of the promotional staff for Tioga Downs will serve as judges.

Cash prizes for all three contests are as follows:
1st Place - $100
2nd Place - $50
3rd Place - $25

Tioga Downs Announces Details of Upcoming Job Fairs


New Positions Available as Tioga Downs Casino & Resort Prepares to Open New Attractions

Nichols, N.Y. – August 21, 2017 – Tioga Downs Casino & Resort, one of the largest employers in the region, is excited to welcome interested applicants to three upcoming job fairs.

Tioga Downs Casino is expanding into a full resort, and with that expansion comes exciting job growth. Our 161-room hotel, P.J. Clarke's Restaurant, and Ageless Spa will be opening in November, and the new event center will be opening in December, creating many new career opportunities.

Positions are available within the following departments: food & beverage management, cage, kitchen staff, P.J. Clarke’s servers, banquet servers, surveillance, housekeeping, front desk, banquets & events, receiving, sales and marketing, slots, spa, security, maintenance and revenue audit and finance.

“The transformation of Tioga Downs will create hundreds of new jobs – we’re already well on our way, with the additions of a full gaming casino, Virgil’s and the golf course,” Jeff Gural, Chairman of American Racing and Entertainment, said. “Job creation has always been a top priority for us, and we’re thrilled to open up even more career opportunities to our highly capable workforce in the Southern Tier.”

The job fairs will be held at Virgil’s Real BBQ, located at 2384 West River Road in Nichols, on the following dates:

Tuesday, August 22
1 p.m. – 2 p.m. (For the first hour, the job fair will be exclusively open to veterans, as a show of thanks for their service and sacrifice.)
2 p.m. – 6 p.m. (Public)

Saturday, August 26
10 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Wednesday, September 6
10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

All applicants should arrive with a copy of their current resume, and apply online prior to the job fair. Please note, in order to be eligible for employment at Tioga Downs, you must be at least 18 years of age.

Most recently, the Gural family and Tioga Downs donated an impressive $110,000 to the Southern Tier Veterans Support Group as a result of last month’s 38 Special benefit concert.

38 Special Concert Raises $110,000 for Southern Tier Veterans Support Group


Jeff Gural to Present Check to STVSG on Wednesday, August 23

Nichols, N.Y. – August 15, 2017 – Tioga Downs and the Gural family are thrilled to announce that last month’s 38 Special Concert raised $110,000 for the Southern Tier Veteran’s Support Group.

“We are forever in debt to the men and women who have bravely served our country’s military,” Jeff Gural, Chairman of American Racing & Entertainment, said. “We’re proud to have surpassed our goal of $100,000. While we can never fully repay them their service and sacrifice, we know this money will go a long way toward assisting our veterans.”

Our local media partners are encouraged to attend a check presentation on Wednesday, August 23 at 2 p.m. at Tioga Downs Casino, located at 2384 West River Road in Nichols. Veterans will be on hand to thank Mr. Gural and Tioga Downs for their support. The mission of the Southern Tier Veterans Support Group (STVSG) is to provide a network of resources for local veterans, service members and their families.

Tickets to the concert were $15 each. For every ticket sold, Jeff and Paula Gural donated an additional $15 to help our veterans in the Southern Tier.
