Sand Savage takes Monday Tioga feature

Sand Savage came into the Tioga Downs featured event on Monday evening after four straight starts without earning a check.

That slump ended as Greg Merton put Sand Savage on the front end and cut through fractions of 27.2 and 56.1 before leading the field towards three quarters.

At the three quarter pole, Sand Savage was well in command as Red Star Paylater (Ed Hensley) sitting in the pocket made a break and scattered the field behind him.

That paved the way for Sand Savage to have a walk across finish at the wire in 1:53.2.

Sisyphus (Phil Fluet) avoided the breaking horses to finish second, while Stormin Rustler (Corey Braden) was fanned out wide, but finished third.

Scott Blackler trains the 4-year-old son of Allamerican Native–Sheer Hose for Paganelli, Lightning 5 Racing, Daddario, and Maclean.

The win was the seventh of the year for Sand Savage, who with the victory increased his seasonal bankroll to more than $67,000.

Phil Fluet posted a driving grand slam on the evening's 13-race card, while Lewayne Miller, Jimmy Marohn Jr., and Greg Merton each recorded doubles.

Tioga Downs continues live racing on Friday, August 19th at 6:50 pm.
