Fair Voltage wins the Fourth of July feature |
Fair Voltage and Greg Merton captured Tioga's $10,000
featured condition pace on Thursday night in front of a packed house of more
than 8,500 fans.
Merton got Fair Voltage away fourth as Diamond Tiara (Aaron
Byron) set the early tempo of 27.2 and 56.3. Merton moved Fair Voltage to the
outside and followed perfect second over cover as Itstimeformetofly (Corey
Braden) began a first over bid from third down the backside in 27.3 (three
quarters in 1:24.1). Around the final turn, Merton tipped Fair Voltage three
high off of tiring cover and paced home in 28.2 to win in 1:52.4.
It was the fourth win this season for the 5-year-old
daughter of Village Jolt – My True Art for Charles Lewis of New York and trainer James Clouser Jr. The
favorite, Haggin Oaks (James Kennedy) looked as though she was going to get up
in the final strides, but had to settle for second, while Sinspirational (Jim
Marohn Jr.) was third.
Jim Meittinis, Mike Merton, Greg Merton, and Aaron Byron all
posted driving doubles on the night's 10-race card.
