As the field rounded the final turn, Merton pulled Arockin Hanover to the outside and the duo battled to the wire with Arockin Hanover and Greg Merton winning by a head in 1:51.3.
The mile established a new lifetime mark for the 3-year-old son of RocknRoll Hanover – Artaffection for trainer Erv Miller and the ownership group of Carver, Gillis, and Munroe.
Corey Braden posted a driving grand slam on the night's 11-race card, while Ed Hensley had a driving double.
